The Cost of Compromise

“And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.” — Judges 16:20

Brother Jim Williams brought the message, and he preached it plainly. Samson did not fall in a single afternoon. The haircut was the end of it, not the beginning. What undid him was a long series of small compromises, each one survivable on its own, until he woke up and the strength was simply gone and he did not even know it had left.

The message was about guarding three things: the gift, the relationship, and the calling. Samson had all three and traded them piece by piece for things that felt worth it at the time. Pride and appetite got a vote they should never have had.

But it did not end in despair. God’s mercy outlasts the failure. The door back is open to anyone who turns around and walks through it.

Remembering Sister Kim

The service was also given to remembering Sister Kim, who passed away this month. Member after member stood to speak — about the Sunday school class she taught, about the food she carried to people who needed it, about the way she checked on this church and the people in it.

Her seat is being kept with a cloth on it until the ninth of August.
