Choose This Day

“Choose you this day whom ye will serve … but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” — Joshua 24:15

Graduate recognition Sunday. The church honored its high school and college graduates, along with students recognized for academic achievement and honor society membership.

Rev. Cedric Lawrence brought the message from Joshua 24:14–18. Joshua puts the choice plainly to Israel — decide today who you are going to serve — and then answers for his own household before anyone else can answer for theirs.

The message was about commitment that shows up in the living, not just the saying. A man leads his family by example, and what he chooses becomes what his house learns to choose. Fitting for a day built around young people heading out into the next thing.

There was a word for parents, too: push your children toward more than you had, and expect it of them. The Sunday school lesson that morning was on Hannah, who prayed with a purpose in mind for the child she was asking for — and God answered her.
