Father’s Day at Hickory Grove, with a guest speaker in the pulpit, and the subject was bravery — not the absence of fear, but being fearless in the face of difficulty because of who you are trusting.
The heart of it was that faith has to be accompanied by action. Faith that never moves is not yet doing anything. And the speaker was direct about something churches do not always say out loud: men need to take care of their mental health, not just carry it.
He took the parable of the prodigal son and turned it a different way — the same set of facts is a loss or a lesson depending on where you are standing when you look at it. Hard circumstances build character when they are met with the right mind.
The service closed with prayer over the church family and a charge to keep looking up. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
