“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” — John 10:9
Fourth Sunday, and the table was set for Holy Communion.
The message came out of John 10:7–10. Jesus does not describe Himself as a way in. He says He is the door — the one entrance to salvation, to forgiveness, to a life that is actually new rather than just tidied up. The preaching did not soften that. There is not a second door around the side.
But the emphasis fell on the other half of the verse, which is the generous half. The door is open. Whoever will may come in, and go in and out, and find pasture. The narrowness is in how many doors there are, not in who is allowed through.
The service closed at the Lord’s table, in remembrance.
