“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” — Psalm 30:5
A guest preacher from Freedom Missionary Baptist Church brought the message, and he took it in three movements: restore your praise, reinstate the promises, reignite the passion.
He went to David — not David at his best, but David in the long stretch of conflict with the house of Saul, making mistakes, worn down. The point was that feeling worthless and being worthless are not the same thing. A man can be far from where he ought to be and still be a child of God.
Then the promises: that God will never leave you nor forsake you. That you are the head and not the tail. That if you seek first the kingdom, the rest gets added. The message was that God stays faithful through stretches when we are not, and He does not withdraw the promise because we wandered off from it.
And it closed on joy — that happiness comes from somewhere inside rather than from how things happen to look this week, and that God has not given up on anybody, whoever else may have.
